“What you do today can improve all your tomorrows.” – Ralph Marston
Sometimes what we consider a negative experience turns out to be the very thing that changes our lives for the better or propels us to the place where God wants us to be. Bad breakup? Loss your job? Health concerns? All can be viewed as negative and certainly unwanted experiences. However, the lessons learned are the very things needed for us to grow and to transform us into new and improved people; sometimes even a better version of ourselves.
I recently decided to branch out on my own, in pursuit of my dreams of becoming a Life and Career Coach. The main reasons for leaving my “9 to 5” behind were to:
- build a life of more freedom and flexibility
- have a career where I am using my gifts and talents in a meaningful and purpose-filled way
- and spend more quality time with my family.
Believe me, leaving a place of security, with great health insurance and making great money was a little scary. I’m the type of person who ALWAYS has some sort of backup before jumping into new territory. I’m pretty much a low risk taker, but clearly I’m evolving.
However, what I discovered that was much scarier for me was being in a place where I wasn’t living life, merely rushing through my days and nights due to an insane work schedule, experiencing health concerns because of stress and missing out on being a mother that was present for my daughter. I would have hated to endure all of the craziness, make all of this money, and speed through life without a moment to enjoy it. So, I chose me, my family and peace.
As I made this bold decision, I wondered “What are the next steps?”, “Where do I begin?”, “Raphaela, are you sure about this?” Then, I thought of a quote from Paulo Coelho, author of “The Alchemist” which says, “And, when you desire something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” I agree that when you set out to pursue your purpose, there are people and opportunities that come along to help you fulfill those things. I’ve since connected with some great people and have been linked to great opportunities that are moving me closer to the dream.
Let’s just call me Raphaela 2.0! I am renewed, I am at peace and I am stepping onto new territory!
How about you? What dreams have you been sitting on? A little encouragement- Pursue them! You never know when you’ll get this moment again.
